Developing Leadership Capability

At Oxford Brookes Business School we strongly believe that leadership capabilities can be developed. We have extensive experience and a proven track record in enhancing the capabilities of leaders across the globe.

We see self awareness as fundamental to developing leadership capability, which when combined with know-how, the motivation to change and support can bring about transformational changes in those going through our programmes. Effective leadership has been widely identified as critical to organisational performance. Creating visions, inspiring and motivating staff, influencing key stakeholders, developing talent and successfully leading change are some of the key capabilities required of those in leadership roles at all levels in organisations.

We have experience of:

  • Working globally with a range of blue chip organisations in a wide range of fields such as coaching and mentoring, leadership development, strategy, marketing and finance, to name but a few;
  • Meeting organisational client needs through specialist centres such as the International Centre for Coaching and Leadership Development and the Centre for Environmental Sustainability in the Hospitality Industry;
  • National recognition for its Knowledge Transfer Partnership activity;
  • Being one of only five business schools designated as a UK Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning;
  • Full AMBA and EPAS accreditation for its flagship MBA and other career focussed programmes;
  • Acting as host to two of the UK Higher Education Academy's Subject Centres, in Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism, and Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance.

Who should attend?

Managers taking part in our programmes learn not just how to operate more effectively as leaders but also to manage their own leadership development on an ongoing basis. We see leadership as something required at all levels in organisations, not just something exercised by a few senior people at the top. Due to our approach this course is suitable for junior managers and specialists up to Board level. We have particular expertise in working with managers from across the globe.

Benefits to individual and the organisation

The importance of leadership to the effective functioning of organisations and society is generally agreed across the globe. Indeed, the lack of effective leadership is often cited as being responsible for failing organisations and the ills of society. In this two-day workshop, our starting point is that leadership is not just the province of those with the position and title of leader or manager. Leadership is something that is the business of everyone and the skills can be learned. The delegates attending this workshop will identify the key capabilities required for effective leadership. There will be opportunities to relate these to their own situation and experiences and to practise leadership skills. They will leave with a practical plan of how to increase their leadership effectiveness now and into the future.

"The Oxford Brookes leadership programmes focus on developing self-awareness and making real behaviour changes to help get the best out of others. The outcomes for me were better decision-making and improved results."

International Executive, Primark Stores Ltd.
