Understanding Strategy

Most organisations say they have a strategy. But what does this mean in practice? How is this developed and instilled within the fabric of your organisation?

These are core questions that need to be addressed in order to form the foundations of a successful business. This course is designed to develop an understanding of strategy concepts and importantly how to adapt these successfully to the needs of your business. A core theme that runs throughout the course is the need to firstly develop and communicate a clear and unambiguous strategy and secondly ensure this is 'tuned' to the needs of your business and customers.

We have experience of:

  • Working globally with a range of blue chip organisations in a wide range of fields such as coaching and mentoring, leadership development, strategy, marketing and finance, to name but a few;
  • Meeting organisational client needs through specialist centres such as the International Centre for Coaching and Leadership Development and the Centre for Environmental Sustainability in the Hospitality Industry;
  • National recognition for its Knowledge Transfer Partnership activity;
  • Being one of only five business schools designated as a UK Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning;
  • Full AMBA and EPAS accreditation for its flagship MBA and other career focussed programmes;
  • Acting as host to two of the UK Higher Education Academy's Subject Centres, in Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism, and Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance.

Who should attend?

Managers taking part in our programmes learn not just how to think strategically but also how to instil tools and knowledge in those around them. The need to ensure a strategic view as an organisation rather than a select few is a core principal of the course. As such, this course is suitable for senior managers across all levels to junior managers and specialists. We have particular expertise in working with managers from across the globe.

Benefits to individual and the organisation

The importance of 'good' strategic thinking is paramount to the success of organisations. Whether you are currently at a junior, middle or senior management point in your career you will have the opportunity to reflect on where you and your organisation are, and where you both want to be in the future. Our starting point is understanding the core elements of thinking strategically both from a practical and perhaps more theoretical perspective. This is about marrying the best from academia with the best from business. In presenting and debating the strategic tools available to you and your organisation this course will also examine ways of overcoming the challenges that are faced by today's organisations.

"The course was extremely well organised, with good teaching methods, practical activities and lecturers who are very enthusiastic and experienced."
