    Course: MSc Marketing

"Working for Freestyle has been a fantastic experience, especially for developing my specialist knowledge in 'social media strategic planning'. I'm thoroughly enjoying working for a digital agency".

I originally applied to Oxford Brookes University Business School because of its good reputation and I really like Oxford as a city. Once I visited the campus I decided that it was the place for me, it felt quite instinctive.

Working for Freestyle has been a fantastic experience, especially for developing my specialist knowledge in 'social media strategic planning'. I'm thoroughly enjoying working for a digital agency: I love the variety of working on different projects and the 'work hard/play hard' attitude which comes with working for a fast-paced, sociable agency.

I was initially attracted to Freestyle because of its reputation, it is currently ranked 26th by New Media Age in a poll of the top 100 UK digital agencies. During the application process Freestyle organised a competition among some of the Marketing and E-Marketing MSc students at Oxford Brookes University. The brief was to put together a 5-minute presentation using three slides on a given topic. While the use of audio and visual aids were encouraged, text of any description was forbidden. This I found was an extremely challenging but immensely valuable exercise.

While working with Freestyle, I've been dubbed as the 'social media intern' and have had the good fortune of taking on various different roles. I have had the opportunity to contribute to a peer group insight document for a high profile sports personality and completed a massive social media mapping exercise and competitor analysis for a global airline. I am also currently writing a weekly blog for The Drum, which is an online digital magazine.

I've also got some work experience with Simple at the end of September (the UK's number one skin care range) which I landed through a contact at Freestyle. I'm very excited about the prospect of working for an in-house marketing department and being able to make the direct comparison of working for a digital agency.

    Course: MSc Human Resource Management

"What prompted me to join Oxford Brookes was that it's a university that was consistently rated as the best modern university in the UK for about 10 years consecutively."

That really caught my eye and when I further investigated the course profile, I found that the Human Resource Management masters was CIPD accredited. So it seemed like an obvious choice really.

I think the student experience here at Brookes is wonderful. You get to meet people from such diverse backgrounds. And you also not only learn from your course tutors and textbooks, but you learn from your own classmates, about best practices in their countries which has helped open my eyes to the vast amount of techniques or tactics used by people of different countries in order to solve business issues. So this really does help me to understand international business so much better. Also even the lecturers are from different countries and have had vast amounts of experience working in an international context, so what they bring to the classroom is extremely valuable.

In any organization, problem solving and critical thinking skills are paramount. Here at brookes I am made to think critically and to look at issues in different perspectives which helps solve problems in ways I would not have thought of had it not been for my coaching here at Brookes. So I am quite confident in terms of career that I have the essential business skills that employers look for in a prospective candidate.

The quality of teaching is outstanding, as they are lecturers who have had experiences in industry; they know what they are talking about in a practical sense, not merely theory.

Oxford is a brilliant city to study in. The arts, the history, the parks, the pubs, restaurants and night clubs are all a stone throw away from each other. So I would definitely recommend anyone to study at Brookes, the resources, the lecturers, the staff and everyone at brookes are looking to help you if and when you need it.

    Course: MSc Accounting

"I wanted to study in the UK and then I had a look based on the programs that each university offered; I was looking for an accounting course and the one at Oxford Brookes sounded great!"

My course will really help me as I am looking for a graduate scheme job in the field of accounting so it will be very relevant. It has also helped a lot with the organisation of tasks as I have quite a lot of work to do so time management is important. I need to set prioritises and schedule all my work to get everything done. I very much enjoy being a student here! It is very different from anything I have experienced before; it provides different opportunities. Based on my course, I would recommend it as I think the accounting course is very well structured and provides a lot of insight so I definitely would recommend it for that.

At the moment I am applying for graduate scheme jobs, so I'm thinking of staying in the UK, maybe moving to London but definitely hoping for a job within accounting.

    Course: MSc Business Management

"The practical application of what you learn is amazing. It isn't just theory, but they give you the case study method of learning. So you learn to problem solve. This really makes you think and helps you look outside the box for solutions."

In the current economic context there has never been a more important time to have this skill of problem solving. So I am really happy with my course.

Oxford is a renown student city and it is instantly a selling point. But I love Oxford simply because I feel like it is a home away from home. The ethnic mix and the nationalities you see on Cornmarket Street or the city centre is fabulous to see. Travelling is also very convenient so the city in itself is attractive.

Drawing on my business background, the range of things you learn over here is way more advanced. From a career point of view, this course is AMBA accredited, and AMBA accredit only a limited number of programmes and Brookes is one of them. So the repute adds on. The range of modules you learn here and the structure of the course is really different from other universities.

The quality of teaching is undoubtedly excellent. The lecturers are very professional and are very clear in what they expect out of you. Not only that, but they also want to know what you expect out of them, which I think is brilliant as the needs of different students is different, having the opportunity to speak to your tutors and tell them that you have an issue without being turned away. So the lecturers are very supportive and they look to help you with your assignments and clarify issues you may have.

The teaching methods are brilliant. The lectures are very interactive and it isn't one-way communication. The course is quite active learning as you have tasks to complete, so you learn the theory by applying those theory to real business issues.

I would definitely recommend Brookes to anyone. The course quality, the rigour and the overall student experience is simply fabulous.
